Project Description
Studio 3A, Projects 1, 3 and 5 Kinaesthetic Design Understanding; Explore UCD campus and find a space you think could be better utilized for seating, study this space and design a bench that would enhance this space.
Brief
Propose a design intervention for your selected space. The intervention must include a seating component and some form of additional planting. The intervention must be substantial enough to create a landscape through which at least three people can move, or, within which they can stop/stay at the same time. The intervention must not be limited to an object. Create a series of drawings that will fully illustrate what you propose. Specific sketch design and detailing should be given to the seating element(s) of the proposal. Develop a material study and sketch models with a view to finalising the choices related to materials, detailing and fixing of components relating to your bench/seating piece. Construct a section of your bench for display in the allocated space in the central atrium at Newstead. These installations will form an exhibition. The bench must be a minimum of 750mm in length. Due to material constraints, the bench can be made entirely of timber if it is not possible to source proposed materials, as a type of 1:1 model.
